Lacking in activities on a Saturday night, I chose to spend my spare time watching a recently released movie that kept me curious since the first time I have seen the trailer in the theaters. Soon after I clicked the play button I found myself absorbed in the compelling story of the fantasy romance movie, Age of Adaline.
Narrator: “On December 31, 2014, a taxicab traveled through San Francisco, from Chinatown to Marin. The car carried a single passenger: a woman, her birth name Adaline Bowman, current alias Jennifer Larson. This is the first and last chapter of her story.”
This is how the film introduces us to the mysterious story of Adaline Bowman (starring Blake Lively), a young looking woman who has lived a solitary existence considering her condition that kept her young for the last eight decades. The 29 years old has never allowed herself to get close to anyone who might get emotionally hurt or reveal her secret until she encountered the charismatic philanthropist Ellis Jones (starring Michiel Huisman). When a weekend spent with his parents (Harrison Ford and Kathy Baker) almost uncovers the truth, as Ellis’s father, an ex-boyfriend of Adaline that she loved a lot, recognizes her, she makes the decision to run from another chance of true love. Considering that I don’t want to spoil anything, I will let you discover the rest of the emotional and unforgettable story.
The movie was directed written by Salvador Paskowitz, Allison Burnett, J. Mills Goodloe and directed by Eee Toland Krieger. It was released on August 24, 2015 with a runtime of 1 hour 49 minutes. J. Mills Goodloe was inspired by Audrey Tautou’s character in the french film Amelie. He affirmed “I thought it was a terrific wonderful character. It was a clever hook for me. That was a jumping off point.”
The movie’s nominations include: Choice Movie: Drama, Choice Movie Actress:Drama (Blake Lively) and Choice Movie: Liplock (Blake Lively & Michiel Huisman). With a budget estimated around $25 million, Age of Adaline grossed $42,6 million in North America and $11,8 in other countries and a worldwide total of %54.5 million. On IMDB, the movie received 7.3/10, on Rotten Tomatoes, 54% people gave it a positive review and Cinemagia offered the film a favourable score of 8.2/10.
